Noise Barrier for Trenord Maintenance Facility in Novate Milanese: the Stopson Italiana Project

Stopson Italiana completed the supply and installation of a noise barrier at the Trenord maintenance facility in Novate Milanese, as part of an acoustic mitigation project developed to meet the Customer’s requirements.

The project introduced technical improvements to an acoustic solution based on noise shielding systems, with the goal of reducing noise propagation toward the residential receivers located near the plant area.

 

Acoustic mitigation intervention for a railway maintenance facility

Stopson Italiana managed the supply of a noise barrier for the maintenance facility of Trenord S.r.l., a leading company in regional rail public transport.

The intervention was carried out at the Novate Milanese site and involved the acoustic protection of residential receivers located close to the pumping station and the fire-fighting water reserve.

 

Project objective

The aim of the project was the reduction of airborne noise propagation generated by a metal structure housing two electric circulation pumps, connected to several mechanical devices.

The solution was developed to improve acoustic comfort in the surrounding areas and ensure performance aligned with the targets required by the Customer.

The supply included the installation of sound-absorbing and sound-insulating aluminium panels,

with the following characteristics:

  • barrier height: 4.5 m

  • material: sound-absorbing and sound-insulating aluminium

  • installation: fixed to the existing reinforced concrete foundation

This configuration was designed to ensure effective acoustic shielding in a sensitive infrastructure environment, where it was necessary to contain the noise generated by technological equipment.

 

Required acoustic performance and achieved results

One of the most relevant aspects of the project was the achievement of the required attenuation values near the receivers.

 

Required attenuation

  • Receiver 1: 10 dB(A)

  • Receiver 2: 4 dB(A)

 

Achieved attenuation

  • Receiver 1: 10.6 dB(A)

  • Receiver 2: 10.4 dB(A)

 

The achieved results confirm the effectiveness of the installed noise barrier, with values that met and exceeded the required performance, especially for the second receiver.
