Our history
Since its foundation in 1965 as a subsidiary of the French group Boët Stopson, Stopson Italiana has built an autonomous path made up of innovation, research and leadership. Between pioneering acoustic tests, collaborations with large industries and quality certifications, our history is made up of key steps that tell who we are today.
1965
STOPSON ITALIANA was founded as a subsidiary of the French group Boët Stopson.
The Stopson group dates back to 1872 when it initially produced boilers and pipes for small local businesses, then in 1938 it entered the acoustic market for automotive silencers and jet engines, acquiring the name STOPSON. In 1957, the Group definitively abandoned the automotive industry and joined the industrial sector of sound insulation.
Since its foundation, STOPSON ITALIANA has acted in full autonomy with its expertise, know-how and a list of world references, covering projects of half a century with the best companies in the sector. Stopson Italiana has gradually become a world-leading engineering and manufacturing company active in noise abatement solutions for the Oil & Gas, Power and Commercial markets.
1972
the Group has created its own test plant equipped with an anechoic chamber and reverberation room.
1978
Stopson Italiana has become a founding member of CIADI, an association of qualified manufacturers of sound insulation solutions who participate in working groups of most international organizations for standardization and has also supported other Italian associations or organizations for standardization, e.g. ANIMA and UNI.
1985
Stopson provided effective soundproofing for the test cells for the Ferrari F1 engine with attenuation in excess of 65 dB(A).
1990
Stopson has been awarded its first major contract with Fiat Avio for the supply of soundproof cabins for the TG50D5 gas turbine and its auxiliaries, part of a larger contract with ENEL for the re-powering of some Italian power plants.
In the same year, it was the first of the sound insulation manufacturers to obtain its own ISO9001 certified quality system.
2001
Stopson has won its first major order for skid-mounted and ground-mounted cabins for PGT 5 and PGT 25+ with General Electric Oil & Gas, Nuovo Pignone.
2002
Boët Stopson has merged with the IAC Group under the new IAC Stopson brand.
Founded in 1949, IAC is one of the oldest acoustic companies active in the soundproofing industry with more than 650 employees and a global footprint. Being part of a larger international group, it allows STOPSON to strengthen its position in the European electricity market and, in addition, to increase its ability to develop new products with a state-of-the-art acoustic laboratory.
2003
Stopson supplied a series of 8 cabins for the LM 2500 gas turbine with Fiat Avio for the Italian Navy’s HORIZON frigates
2006
The first sets of acoustic cabins for gas turbines, auxiliaries, steam turbines and generators have been delivered to Ansaldo Energia
2011
Once again first among silencer manufacturers, Stopson has obtained certification of its SPM silencer diffuser in accordance with the PED B + C1 directive.
2012
The AEA investment fund has acquired the IAC Group from the Mezzanine fund. The Company has gone through a substantial reorganization in terms of branding, processes and workforce.
2015
Our Company celebrates its 50th anniversary by becoming independent and regaining the historical name STOPSON ITALIANA while maintaining international exposure and local attention.
An important step forward in our history that also includes staff updating, process reorganization and product development to prepare for the new challenge and the growing demand for competitiveness of our customers.

2020
Stopson Italiana continues to grow thanks to the acquisition of the SilencERmarine brand. The brand is committed to researching the best design and construction solutions for marine silencers and related automation solutions. Now, part of the Stopson Italiana group, SilencERmarine will continue to provide high-quality products to meet the growing demand in the maritime sector.
2023
Stopson Italiana establishes Stopson Türkiye, its first foreign entity, together with the two Turkish partners in the manufacturing sector, Modcon Makina and Prodinox Metal, with which it has already been collaborating since 2016. Thanks to the partnership, Stopson Italiana will use a distribution channel for its products in the Turkish market, as well as laying the foundation stone for the production of its products in a proprietary workshop. The following year, Stopson Türkiye obtained the prestigious ASME U-Stamp certification.
